How to compress a PDF to 1 MB or less

What you’ll do

• Read the number next to the upload box before you touch the file.
• Open Compress Any and choose the 1 MB target. The chips are No target, 1, 2, 5, and 10 MB.
• If the result misses 1 MB, open Compress PDF and run Strong once.
• If Strong still misses, drop pages, split the packet, or rescan at a lower resolution.
• For a cap under 500 KB, use the 1 MB target first, then split. There is no 500 KB chip.

How to

   Write down the cap

   The portal’s own note wins. A visa page that says 1 MB is a different job from an exam page that says 200 KB. Do not guess from a blog. If the box says the limit includes every file in the application, add those other files before you celebrate one small PDF.

   Open Compress Any and set 1 MB

   Drop the PDF on this device. Choose the 1 MB chip. Compress Any routes the file and tries to land on that target. If it cannot, you see the closest honest size. You do not get a file that pretends to be under the line.

   Read the number before you download

   Compare the new size with the cap. If it is under, stop. Extra compression is not extra virtue. Open the first page, a middle page, and the last page. A photo ID inside the PDF blurs before the headings do.

   If 1 MB misses, run Compress PDF Strong once

   Compress PDF is Light or Strong. It does not have MB chips. Strong recompresses pictures. Use it once when the 1 MB target was close but not under. Then look at any page that is really a photograph. If the face or the stamp is mush, Strong was the wrong trade.

   Drop pages or split

   A packet that is still over the cap after one Strong pass needs fewer pictures, not a second and third pass. Remove an appendix. Send the form and the evidence as two uploads if the desk allows it. Split the file so each part has a chance under 1 MB.

   Under 500 KB

   There is no 500 KB chip. Use the 1 MB target, check the result, and split or rescan if the portal’s real cap is 500 KB, 200 KB, or 100 KB. Rescan the paper at a lower resolution instead of stacking quality loss on a colour original. A text export from a word processor is a better source than a photo of that same page.

Why a form cap is not an email cap

Personal Gmail allows 25 MB of attachments per message, combined. A 1 MB form is a different world. The form desk is protecting a queue, not a mailbox. Treat the number on that page as a hard stop. The email guide covers message budgets. This page covers the small box.

Job portals are typically 2–5 MB and belong with the resume guide. Do not use this page to squeeze a text CV. Light on a text file is enough there, and Strong can soften small type you still need an applicant-tracking parser to read.

Under 500 KB?

People ask for 500 KB, 200 KB, and 100 KB because some desks still publish those numbers. Priceory does not invent a chip for each of them. The 1 MB target is the smallest optional target. After it runs, you check the real size. If you are still over, split the packet or rescan.

A one-page text letter often starts under 500 KB. A phone photo of that letter usually does not. If you can export the letter again from the program that wrote it, do that before you photograph the printout. The export is the honest small file.

Honest limits

Multi-page colour scans often cannot reach 1 MB, and they reach 500 KB even less often. Each page is a picture. Fewer pages, or a lower-resolution rescan, helps more than another compression pass. Photo IDs inside the PDF blur first. If the face or the stamp must stay readable, stop and ask the office for another route: a later upload, a desk visit, or a larger cap.

Compress Any will not hand you a fake under-target file. Compress PDF will not claim Light or Strong hit a number it does not offer as a chip. If the closest honest size is still too big, the next move is editorial — drop a page — not a darker JPEG.

Tips

• Export from the original program when you still have it. A native PDF of text is smaller than a scan of the printout.
• Cover the ID photo last. Check that page at 100 percent before you upload.
• If the portal allows several files, two honest PDFs beat one muddy packet.
• Free 5/24h counts a finished download. Previewing the size does not.

When the tool says no

• Password-locked or damaged PDFs are refused. Unlock or repair first, then return.
• A target that cannot be reached is reported as the closest honest size. That is success of a different kind: you were not handed a lie.
• This guide will not tell you to flatten text into an image just to chase 100 KB. Selectable text is worth more than a fake tiny file.
