Compress a PDF without uploading it

What you’ll do

• Confirm you actually have a PDF (not a folder of images pretending to be one file).
• Open Compress PDF on Priceory and drop the file on this device.

   Measure the problem first

   Look at the file size you have and the size you need. Email gates, form portals, and shared folders each have a number. Compressing without a target wastes quality. If the PDF is already small, skip this job.

   Light is the professional default: enough shrinkage for most attachments, with pages that still read as print-sharp on a phone. Run Light first. If the new size already clears the gate, stop. Extra compression is not extra virtue.

   Use Strong only for a hard cap

   Strong is for portals that reject anything above a fixed number. Expect softer photographs and heavier text. Open a page with a photo and a page of small type before you send. If a figure becomes unreadable, Light plus splitting the packet is more honest than one muddy file.

   Keep the compressed download with a clear name so you do not send the heavy original by habit. Open it once. Scroll the first page, a middle page, and the last page. Compression that only looks fine on page one is not done.

   Attach or upload the smaller file. If you still miss the cap, merge is not the next step — split or remove image-heavy pages first. A client delivery pack, when you need several files together, is a different live job.

Why “without uploading” is the job

Quality versus size, in practice

PDFs get heavy from photos, scans, and embedded fonts — not from the words themselves. A 40-page text memo is rarely the problem. A 6-page pack with phone photos of receipts is. Strong compression spends quality on those photos. If the photos are the evidence, protect them: crop in Shot Ready, then compress Light.

• Name the download with the new size in the filename if you juggle several versions in one afternoon.
• If a portal still rejects the file, check whether it wants a specific PDF version or a flattened form — size is not the only gate.

When the tool says no
