How to compare online shopping totals for US delivery

A product price is one part of a purchase. For delivery to the United States, compare the same item at the same stage of checkout, using the US address where you actually want it delivered. A store's country selector, a US warehouse claim and a dollar sign each tell you something different; none replaces an address-specific checkout check.
Start with an exact item match
Write down the brand, model or style number, size, color and condition. For electronics, include storage, regional version and what is in the box. For clothing, check the size system as well as the printed size. For a pre-owned item, compare its individual condition and included accessories rather than treating every listing with the same name as identical.
Build a checkout comparison sheet
- Record the retailer's original price and currency. USD, CAD and AUD are different currencies even when a listing uses a dollar sign.
- Add the delivery charge shown for your destination ZIP code. Check the service and estimated timing, rather than comparing a standard service with an express service.
- Record taxes and any import or handling charges shown separately at checkout. Mark an undisclosed charge as unknown instead of recording it as zero.
- For an overseas order, ask whether the amount collected at checkout includes all charges or whether a carrier may collect more later. Check the seller's current explanation for your destination.
- Keep a screenshot or order summary with the date, selected variant and final currency. Priceory's observation date describes its source price, not a guarantee of the total you will pay.
Compare the cost of changing your mind
Before choosing between two similar totals, find the return address, return deadline, label charge and any restocking deduction. Ask whether original delivery or import charges are refundable. A return to another country can involve a different process from a domestic return, so read the instructions for the seller and item you selected.
Use Priceory as a starting point
Open the retailer from the product collection, confirm the exact variant, and complete the comparison on that retailer's site. Approximate display-currency conversions help you browse; they are not a payment quote. The FTC's online shopping advice also recommends checking total costs, delivery and return policies, and retaining purchase records. This checklist does not promise a particular tax rate, customs threshold or delivery date.
This is a shopping checklist, not a quoted checkout price or a promise about a retailer. Priceory has not purchased or tested the items. Confirm current charges and terms with the seller before paying. See our editorial standards.
