Why uploads matter for the papers people scan

The papers people scan are often the ones they would not drop into a public chat: an identity page, a contract, a medical form, a payslip. A cloud scanner keeps a copy on someone else's disk so it can clean the picture. That may be fine for a recipe. It is a poor default for a contract.

Category phrasing is enough. Scanner apps that upload your pages to their cloud are a different product from a tool that finishes on the phone. This guide does not name those apps and it does not rank them.

What on this device means here

The camera view stays on this device. No frame is uploaded or recorded. The unfinished scan is kept on this device for up to 24 hours so a closed tab does not lose the pages. There is no account library, no folder, and no cross-device copy. Clear draft removes it sooner.

The English text pack loads from Priceory to your phone the first time you ask for searchable text. That is a download of the pack. Your pages do not travel the other way. We don't claim offline use. The page itself also loads from Priceory.

How to check for yourself

Open the browser's network panel. Start a scan. Take a few pages. Export. Watch the request list. You should see the page assets, and the text pack only if you asked for searchable text. You should not see your photo posted to another site. Shutter taps should not add a request each time.

A trust receipt, when that add-on is on a result, is a local note of hashes. It is not a claim that a lab watched the network for you. The panel is the check you can do yourself.

Scan privately, step by step

Open Scan to PDF on your phone. Read the camera note. Allow the camera or choose photos. Flatten the corners. Pick a clean-up. Export. Download once. The file is a normal PDF. It opens in an ordinary reader. Nothing in that path requires an account.

Honest limits

No cloud library. No cross-device continue. Searchable text is best on clear printed English. Handwriting is kept as an image. Edge finding can miss a white page on a white desk, and then you set the corners. Free is 20 pages per scan and Free 5/24h for new downloads. Every plan stops at 100 pages because phone memory does.

Cookies and file privacy

File privacy and site cookies are different. Instant & Private means the scan is not uploaded for the job. It does not mean the website sets zero cookies. Privacy explains the site. A private scan is still a normal PDF when you download it. You can attach it, print it, or keep it in Files. The privacy promise is about how it was made, not a lock on the file after you save it. If a later tool must see the PDF, that is a new choice you make. The scan itself did not send the pages anywhere. Unfinished pages expire on this device after 24 hours. There is no account to recover them from, because there is no account.
