Sign a PDF vs verify a PDF signature

Instant & Private sign

Signing a PDF and verifying a PDF signature are different jobs. On Priceory you can place a signature Instant & Private with Sign PDF — draw, type, or drop a mark on the page and download the file. Checking whether a cryptographic signature is valid is a separate verifier, and that verifier is not live on Priceory yet.

This guide teaches the difference so you do not send a placed mark and call it a cryptographic check. When a verify route is live, this page will point to it. Until then, the live CTA is Sign PDF.

Nothing here is legal advice. A mark on a page is not automatically an enforceable act in every setting.

What you’ll do

  • Decide whether you need to place a signature image or to check someone else’s cryptographic signature.
  • If you need to place a mark, open Sign PDF on Priceory and do the job Instant & Private on this device.
  • Download the signed PDF and open it in an ordinary reader.
  • If you need to verify a cryptographic signature, wait for the live verifier — do not use a ghost link.
  • Do not confuse a visible mark with a cryptographic seal.

How to

  1. Name the job out loud

“I need my mark on this page” is Sign PDF. “I need to know whether this file’s cryptographic signature still matches” is verify. If you need both, they are still two jobs. Doing the first does not complete the second.

  2. Open Sign PDF when you need a mark

Use the live Sign PDF tool. Drop the PDF on this device. Instant & Private Free processing does not upload it. Choose draw, type, or an uploaded signature image, then place it where the page expects a mark.

  3. Place, don’t decorate

One clear mark on the signature line beats three floating stamps. Size it to the line. If the page also needs a date, add the date as the page asks — True Edit is the in-place text job if the date is existing text rather than a signature object.

  4. Download and open

Open the PDF in an ordinary reader. Confirm the mark is on the right page and did not cover other wording. Send that download, not a screenshot of the tool.

  5. Verification — honest status

A cryptographic verify tool for PDF signatures is not live on Priceory at the time this guide shipped. There is no public nav item to a missing route. When verify is live, use that tool to check certificates and validity. Until then, do not pretend a placed image is a verifier.

  6. Agent and document trust stay separate

Work Passport seals hashes of an agent run. Sign PDF places a mark on a page. Mandate Check inspects an inbound ask. Do not use one flagship’s language for the other. Technical evidence is not a signature, and a signature image is not a passport.

Visible mark versus cryptographic signature

A visible mark is ink-on-page: a drawing, a typed name, a PNG of your signature. Anyone who can edit a PDF might add a similar mark. It is still the everyday job people mean when they say “sign this and send it back.”

A cryptographic signature is a mathematical seal bound to certificates. Verifying it answers whether that seal is intact, not whether the visible squiggle looks pretty. Those answers are easy to mix up in conversation and expensive to mix up in a review.

Priceory — Instant & Private. Sign PDF is live. Verify-when-live is the honest line for cryptographic check. This guide will not link a ghost route.

When a placed signature is enough

Internal forms, a covering page, a packet that asks for a mark in a box — these are the Sign PDF job. If a counterparty told you they need a cryptographic signature from a specific desktop suite, this tool may not be their process. Ask them what they will actually open.

This guide is not legal advice. Whether a mark counts in a given setting is not a question a how-to can close.

Tips

  • Keep a clean signature PNG on this device if you sign often, rather than redrawing a different mark each time.
  • Flattened marks are harder to accidentally nudge. If the live tool offers a flatten as part of download, use it when the recipient should see a finished page.
  • If you also need wording fixes, True Edit first, then sign.
  • Free 5/24h counts a finished sign as a completion.

When the tool says no

  • Files the tool cannot open, encrypted PDFs it cannot read, and empty drops are refused.
  • Sign PDF will not verify someone else’s cryptographic signature. That is the not-yet-live job.
  • Do not treat a refuse as a signed file. There is no download to send.

FAQ

Instant & Private · Sign PDF

Does Sign PDF upload my file on Free?

No. Free Instant & Private signing stays on your device. The PDF is not uploaded for processing.

Is a drawn signature the same as a cryptographic signature?

No. A drawn or typed mark is visible ink on the page. A cryptographic signature is a certificate-backed seal. Different jobs.

Can I verify a PDF signature on Priceory today?

A dedicated verify route is not live yet. This guide does not link a ghost page. Use Sign PDF when you need to place a mark. When verify ships, use that live tool.

Can I type my name instead of drawing?

Yes, if the live Sign PDF tool offers type as well as draw and image. Place it on the line the page provides.

Is this legal advice?

No. This guide does not tell you whether a mark is enforceable. It tells you how to place one Instant & Private and how that differs from verify.
