Bank statement PDF to CSV

What you’ll do

• Start with a digital statement PDF you can already select text in — not a photographed printout.
• Open Clean Ledger on the bank-statement route and drop the PDF on this device.
• Read the preview: date, payee, amount, currency. Fix nothing that is not on the page.
• Download CSV or Excel and open it in an ordinary spreadsheet app.
• If the layout is refused, do not force it. Use a clearer digital export from the same account.

How to

   Export a digital PDF

   From the account’s own statement download, choose PDF with text. If you only have paper, photograph it for your records with Shot Ready, but do not expect Clean Ledger to OCR a scan in this job. The ledger path is a text-layer extract.

   Open Clean Ledger — statement

   Go to the live bank-statement tool. Drop the PDF on this device. Instant & Private Free processing does not upload it. Wait for the preview rather than downloading blindly.

   Read the preview like a reconciliation

   Check a known deposit, a known bill, and the statement period. If payee names look truncated, that may still be what the PDF printed. Clean Ledger does not invent a fuller merchant name than the statement shows.

   Choose CSV or Excel

   CSV is the portable table. Excel is for people who will filter in a desktop spreadsheet. Download one, open it, and confirm row counts against the preview. If you need both, that is two downloads of the same extract — not two different truths.

   Reconcile three rows by hand

   Pick three lines from the PDF and find them in the spreadsheet. Date, amount, direction. If those three match, the extract is usable. If they do not, the layout is not this statement’s friend — see refuse.

   Keep the PDF

   The spreadsheet is a working copy. The PDF remains the statement you were given. Do not throw away the PDF because the CSV is easier to sort.

Digital versus scan

A digital statement has letters the computer already knows. A scan is a picture of letters. Clean Ledger on this route expects the first. If you only have a scan, the honest move is to get a digital export, not to pretend pixels are a ledger.

What a good extract is for

Sorting by payee. Summing a category you tag yourself. Looking for a duplicate amount. Preparing a month folder. It is not tax advice, not a bank, and not a replacement for the official statement.

If you later want invoices in the same workbook, run the invoice guide on those PDFs and keep columns aligned yourself. Clean Ledger will not silently merge two different document types into one mystery sheet.

Tips

• Name the download with the statement period so you do not mix months.
• If amounts look like text, set the column to a number format in your spreadsheet app after download.
• Watch currency. A multi-currency statement should keep the currency column — do not delete it to make a prettier table.
• Free 5/24h counts a finished extract as a completion.

When the tool says no

• Untested or image-only layouts are refused. That is the product being honest, not a prompt to try until it hallucinates rows.
• Encrypted PDFs the tool cannot open are refused. Unlock first if you have a live path for that, then return.
• Clean Ledger will not invent transactions that are not on the page. Missing rows mean a refused or partial layout — not a quiet success.
